Make the most of High Wheat Prices

With high wheat prices, 2011 is the year to go Yield! There is still a long way to go until harvest so it will really pay to protect yield & quality.

What can be done?

A T3 fungicide will pay dividends come rain or shine
Yield benefits over the UK from ear treatments over the last decade have averaged 0.5t/ha (5% increase). Here in the West, yield responses have been even higher.

Value of average yield response (0.5 t/ha) to T3 at £200/tonne = £100.0

Less cost of treatment (eg £20/ha)

Therefore a 5:1 return on investment in just 10 weeks.

Quality benefits are at least as important as the yield response – improved visual appearance and specific weights all being valuable in quality wheats.

Possible deductions:

£1/t/kg below 76 = £10 on a 10 tonne crop

This could lift the return on investment figure nearer to 6:1

Remember, wheat is heading towards £200/tonne again so only a very modest yield increase (0.1t/ha = 40kg per acre) will be needed to pay for a T3 fungicide application.

Using Nutriphyte PGA at T3

 Phosphorus Requirement

The plant has a high requirement for phosphorus late in the crop cycle

If there are availability problems – soil type, P status and or drought limitations the crop may not be able to access sufficient phosphorus to reach its potential.

Maximise late season root efficiency

As plants enter flowering the efficiency of roots is reduced

– they are not being produced, they are less efficient in their uptake of nutrients and   water and they start to die.

This dramatically reduces their efficiency as the crop enters maturity

Apply with the T3 fungicide for more Yield

A late season application of Nutriphyte can produce a significant yield response keeping roots active for longer to provide nutrients and water at this key time

Trials show a Yield benefit of 0.51 T/Ha for First Wheats, 0.63 T/Ha for Second Wheats.
