Cobalt Deficiency

Cobalt deficiency is a major cause of reduced weight gains in weaned lambs in our area. It is not always easy to spot.

Lambs gradually lose their appetite, because a deficiency of Vitamin B12 (linked to Cobalt) allows the build up of toxic by-products of metabolism in the bloodstream & growth rates decline

If the deficiency is marginal then there will be a more general ill thrift, which may be accepted as "normal"

Production losses from poor growth and delays to marketing may cost £10-£15 per lamb
