1 in 4 Cattle livers are condemned in UK slaughter houses every year at a cost of £2.3 million. In Wales it is more like 1 in 3.

The cost of Liver Fluke and its implications can be difficult to calculate. It is estimated that Fluke can cost £25 to £30 per sheep and up to £200 per head in cattle .

Lambs were showing condemned livers, with all stages of fluke as early as October this year.

The Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) for lambs should be around 4 to 1 (4kgs of food to produce 1 kg of meat).

The FCR for a lamb with fluke can be as high as 20 to 1.

A lamb with fluke needs up to 5 times more feed!
